Obituary of Norman Lee Rubesh

Norman Lee Rubesh, 77 of Cloquet passed away suddenly on Friday, January 8, 2021 in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. Norm was born on January 23, 1943 in Carlton to Anton and Bessie Rubesh. He was raised and went to school in Wrenshall, graduating in 1961. He was married to Nancy Korby in 1964 and during their 20 years of marriage they had two daughters, Ronda and Raquel. He later married Cindy Hakamaki in 1995 and became step-dad to her two boys, Cory and Kyle. Norm served in the US Army Reserves and was discharged in 1968. Norm worked at the Steel Plant during his younger years and he was also in the National Guard Reserves. Later he worked as a carpenter, doing remodeling for several people. He was always there to help people when needed. His grandson, Mason was Norm's little buddy who he spent a lot of time with when he wasn't working. Norm loved Mason very much and enjoyed their special time together. Norm had two really close working friends, Mike Korby and Greg Peters, who helped him with many projects. Norm was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Rubesh; and parents-in-law, Judy and Clinton Hakamaki; and his first wife, Nancy Brady. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughters, Ronda (Jim) Lennartson of Esko, Raquel Pank of Superior; his step-sons, Cory Winterquist and Kyle (Danielle) Winterquist both of Cloquet; grandchildren, Jessica, Bryan (Kara), Trent (Katie), Desirée, Mason, and Jayden; great grandchildren, Ethan, Aliyah, Adelaide, Jaxon, and Ezralyn; brothers, Robert (Grace) Rubesh of Hoyt Lakes and Vernie (Joyce) Rubesh of Cloquet; sister, Darlene Rubesh of Duluth; sister-in-law, Debbie Rubesh of Carlton; brothers-in-law, Jody Hakamaki of Stacey and Jeff (Jodi) Hakamaki of Bradenton, FL; sister-in-law, Wendy (Stu) Soderstrom of Ramsey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021 in the Atkins Northland Funeral, 801 14th St., Cloquet.
